Roughing It... Or Not!

Summer is just around the corner and for our family, it means one thing - camping time! It only took us two nights of camping in Parksville in Vancouver Island to get hooked to this fun summer activity. Now, it's a family tradition of ours to go camping every summer.

I used to shy away from the idea. I honestly think I wouldn't survive roughing it. Little did I know that my hubby had already stocked up on camping gear and paraphernalia that when the subject came up, I quickly realized, "gosh! we're ready!"

Camping nowadays come in many different forms - from the most primitive to the most glamorous. Take your pick and haul your family off to camping!

Camping in the great outdoors
PRIMITIVE CAMPING - Not for the faint of heart. But there is a sense of euphoria that accompanies being in the wild and throwing all your cares to the wind! This is when all your scouting skills would come in real handy - uhm, what is a fisherman's knot again???

CAMPING-IT-UP-A-NOTCH - This is our family's kind of camping. We pitch our tents and cook outdoors but we still avail of conveniences like access to power and water because I cook using a convection stove (surprise, surprise!). And how do you think my coffee maker would work without power? :0)
We only go to privately-owned campgrounds which always meant hot showers and flushable toilets, not to mention some amenities like heated pool, camp store and cafe!!!

TEEPEE CAMPING - Leave the tent at home and sleep in a teepee. I must say that I seriously want to try this out, just for the experience. And hey, that's still one load less in our otherwise heavy cargo on a long road trip!

YURT CAMPING- There's a whole new world out there when it comes to camping in style, and yurt camping is one of them. While most of these yurts come with beds/bunk beds, you still need to lay down your sleeping bag over them. You cannot cook inside a yurt, so there's the outdoors factor for you ;)

CANVAS TENTING- Another way to camp in style. It's pretty much the same scenario with the yurt and depending on which campground or resort (take note: I said, RESORT) you go into, your good ol' "roughing it camping" could easily go down the drain.

GLAMPING - As more and more people open up to the idea of camping, but in a glamorous way, GLAMPING was born (glamorous + camping). Now, that's a definite roughing it - not!!!
